Twitter has gone through a turbulent era during the months in which Elon Musk He has established himself as the CEO of the platform. But all this drama seems to be far from over and on the contrary, before anything else it would get more complicated.

The perfect example of this is the most recent twist in this plot, where apparently the executive has ended up lowering the switch to third-party services such as Tweetbot and Twitterrific, completely blocking your access to the use of functions of your social network.

The chaos that has been experienced inside the corporate offices in recent weeks has been widely documented. Where the cuts have been so extreme that there is not even toilet paper in bathrooms and in some cases Musk hasn’t even paid rent on the buildings.

Everything indicates that Elon is looking for a way to maximize Twitter revenue in the shortest possible time. Although in the process that means that you can blow up the social network that you just bought.

Elon Musk would have blocked third-party services to concentrate all Twitter traffic

As of Thursday evening, January 12, 2022, users of external platforms, such as Tweetbot, Twitterrific or TapBots, designed to navigate Twitter in a more comfortable and detailed way or to use only some specific functions, have complained that they can no longer use the service from outside.

So they have been forced to go directly to the Twitter site or use the official app of the social network bought by Elon Musk.

The sore point is that according to a series of internal Slack messages seen by The Informationthe platform administrators would have intentionally blocked those third-party applications:

“I really want an official public statement. We have a bunch of minor refreshes for Tweetbot’s third year coming up in a couple of weeks.

If we go offline permanently, I need to know so we can remove the sales. Which obviously I ‘Prefer not to’.”

This is what the co-creator of Tweetbot, Paul Haddad, points out in a publication by Mastodon on Sunday, January 15, 2023. While the blocking of third-party apps has continued for three days.

Twitter has not expressed its official position on this restriction at the time of writing this note.

But the speculation in the social network itself is that the order would have been imposed by Elon Musk himself.
