Paris hospitals are betting on new measures to recruit caregivers. The AP-HP notably offers some of its nurses scheduling arrangements.

Picking up her children from school is Sabrina Pauchet’s luxury. She is a nurse, but she can take all her Wednesdays and take the days she needs. These schedule adjustments allow her to spend more time with her 9 and 2 year old boys. Since last March, at the Ambroise Paré hospital in Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine), substitute nurses have been self-managing their schedules. They choose their assignments and work days through an app with more flexibility in choosing vacations and weekends.

Housing, another lever

This device has a dual purpose. “We have two targets. The professionals we want to recruit from outside, those who would be tempted by the interim. (…) And then, retain in our establishments the professionals who would be tempted by the interim”, explains Fabienne Banchet, director of care and paramedical activities. Housing is another lever for attracting nurses. “I would not have come to work in Paris if I had not had this accommodation offer”explains a nurse who benefits from an apartment at an attractive price.
