Many devices consume electricity even in standby mode. However, it’s not always a good idea to take them offline entirely.

In view of the energy crisis and the high electricity prices, many consumers are paying more attention to everyday life to save energy. Electrical devices in particular can quickly become power guzzlers, for example when they are in standby mode. It is therefore often worthwhile to unplug devices that are not in use. However, one should not be too hasty – this could also have negative effects on some devices.

Saving electricity: Beware of certain TVs and printers

To the electrical appliances, which should not be disconnected from the mains belong to modern OLED televisions. Here, unplugging can even cause permanent damage. This is because the TVs use the standby mode to run a screen refresh program. This prevents possible burn-in effects. However, if you completely switch off the electricity for the television, you risk that the picture quality will suffer in the long term.

Also certain Drucker should rather stay infected. Inkjet printers start a self-cleaning cycle every time they are switched on. In the end, more ink is used – which is more expensive than the electricity that would be used by the standby mode. With other printers, however, switching off is not a problem.

It is better not to completely unplug the WLAN router

Also should not be disconnected from the network Wlan-Router. Although there is no risk of damage to the devices, switching it off does not make sense. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that many devices carry out updates at night, which is not possible without an Internet connection.

On the other hand, the routers are usually connected to the landline and others terminals connected, which can no longer be used without restrictions after switching off. For example, smart home devices rely on an internet connection. According to the “Chip” portal, there could also be problems with the provider if WLAN routers are regularly disconnected from the power supply. The system could then mistakenly assume that there is interference and turn down the bandwidth.
