Goku Day is celebrated next Tuesday May 9 all over the world and Warner Channel will be part of the festivities 24 hours a day. As part of its Wanimé segment, dedicated especially to fans of Japanese animation, the channel will pay tribute to Goku with a Dragon Ball Super marathon, which will begin on Tuesday at 12 noon and will last until May 10.

It is a special celebration in honor of the character created by Akira Toriyama. The date of May 9 was established as the official day of the festivities throughout the world because in Japanese the numbers 5 and 9 (equivalent to the date 5/9, that is, May 9 in Latin American countries ) are pronounced phonetically as “go” and “ku”, words that together have a sound similar to “Goku”, the name of the beloved character.

Although the celebration previously existed on social networks, it became official in 2015 when it was recognized by the Japan Anniversary Association organization after receiving multiple requests from the public and from TOEI Animation, the animation studio behind the production of the hit anime.

Warner Channel accompanies fans on such an important day by joining the celebrations throughout the day, with an intense marathon.

Dragon Ball Super reconnects fans with their favorite characters while introducing new stories beyond imagination. Ever since they defeated the evil Buu, Goku and his friends have been living peaceful lives. However, his happiness is short-lived when Beerus, the God of Destruction, comes to challenge Goku. With humanity at stake, Goku must enlist the help of his friends to become the legendary Super Saiyan God and face this new threat. His battle is just the beginning of this expansive adventure.

The marathon will focus on the exciting ‘Tournament of Power’ arc. The story begins with Goku’s request to start a martial arts tournament that pits the most powerful warriors from different universes against each other. However, what seemed like a friendly competition turns into the beginning of universal destruction. What awaits the winners and losers of the tournament? How will these intense team battles between the elites of each universe end? Find out in this marathon.
