This magazine initiative chat presented its two awards to Alice Diop for Saint-Omer and Rebecca Zlotowski for Other people’s children.

The Cleopatra Prize announces its winners this Thursday. This magazine initiative chatlaunched in January to compensate for the absence of female directors nominated for the 2023 Césars, awards its audience prize to Alice Diop for Saint-Omer and its Editorial Award to Rebecca Zlotowski for Other people’s children.

Unveiled at the end of January, the list of nominees for the César 2023 was singled out for having selected only men in the best achievement category. Inspired by a joke by the ecologist deputy Marie-Charlotte Garin published on Twitter (“I propose that we stop the Caesars and that we mount the Cleopatras”, had she written), chat had announced in the process the launch of its own selection, exclusively female.

Internet users had until February 10 to vote online, on the magazine’s website, to choose their public prize. More than 1,000 voters answered the call, while the editorial staff agreed to award its own award.

“See you next year for the second edition!”

The list of nominees was made up of Alice Diop and Rebecca Zlotowski, therefore, but also Charlotte Le Bon (Falcon Lake), Blandine Lenoir (Annie Anger), Patricia Mazuy (Bowling Saturn), Alice Winocour (See Paris again) and Rebecca Zlotowki (Other people’s children). Note: the feature films by Alice Diop and Charlotte Le Bon are also nominated for the Césars, but in the best first film category.

“Hoping, from now on, that our political and humorous approach will be heard by the Académie des César”, writes the magazine in a press release. “And if not, see you next year for the second edition of Cleopatra!”

The 48th Cesar ceremony will take place this Friday at the Olympia. The nominees for the best director category are Cédric Klapisch (In body), Louis Garrel (the innocent), Cedric Jiménez (November), Dominik Moll (The night of 12) and Albert Serra (Pacifiction – Torment of the Isles).
