ERCOT warns of extreme heat in Texas

ERCOT issued a weather watch for June 25-30 due to higher temperatures forecast starting this Sunday and higher electrical demand.

Network conditions are expected to be normal from Sunday June 25 to Friday June 30. In the meantime, they continue to monitor the extreme heat situation and will deploy all available tools to manage the network.

ERCOT set a new peak demand record for the month of June with 79,304 MW on the 19th. ERCOT’s 6-day supply and demand panel shows the possibility of a new peak demand all-time record next week. Dashboards will update in real time as the week progresses.

There is currently enough capacity to meet anticipated demand. Last year, ERCOT set 11 new peak demand records, surpassing 80 GW for the first time. The current record of 80,148 MW was set on July 20, 2022.

ERCOT asks residents to sign up to receive network status notifications through the Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS) follow this link.

They can also monitor extended and real-time network conditions following this other link.

What is an ERCOT Weather Watch?

An ERCOT weather watch is advance notification of forecast significant weather with high demand. Grid conditions are expected to be normal, but due to forecast conditions, operating reserves may be lower.
