Woman finds out that whoever stole her cell phone would have also sexually assaulted her

At approximately three in the morning on Friday, July 21, a 27-year-old woman took an Uber back to her apartment, but upon arrival and after the driver helped her get out, something unexpected happened to her.

“She was drunk, she couldn’t walk and she started vomiting. A neighbor who sees her tells her: ‘come on, I’m going to help you and help her get to her apartment,’ ”says Miami police officer Mike Vega.

The next day, the victim realizes that he had lost his cell phone. “He calls her phone number and a man tells him: ‘I have it, but I need money for the phone,'” the authorities specify.

She agreed to pay him and they met at a bank a short distance from her apartment. When the subject gives her the phone, she leaves and doesn’t pay him, without imagining everything that had happened that morning.

Authorities said that “a week later the lady who helps her get to her apartment says: ‘let me look at the videos of what happened that night,’” and that is how she finds out what happened.

It was then that they realized that the subject identified as Joshue Romero, 42, not only stole the victim’s phone, but also sexually assaulted her.

“He lifts her skirt and puts his hand inside and begins to touch her … he also puts his arm in front of the blouse,” they specified about what happened.

Romero was arrested on Sunday, when building employees saw him loitering in the area, the defendant has a record of previous arrests related to robbery, assault and drug possession, among other charges.
