On video: Firefighters help free a dog trapped in the bathtub drain

For a dog in Orange County, Southern California, bath time turned into an emergency when his paw got stuck in the drain.

The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) showed up at the family’s Lake Forest home to help get puppy Bart out of the bathtub.

April Modesti, the dog’s owner, said OCFA showed up within 10 minutes and quickly went to work helping the dog.

Authorities said they were satisfied with the successful rescue that allowed the canine to be reunited with his family.

“I kept saying ‘Mommy loves you, you’re such a good boy,’ and then I hugged him really, really tight,” Modesti said.

The firemen drilled a hole and carefully freed Bart’s paw.

“I was worried that he might start squirming, wanting to get out of the pipe, and it all worked out,” said Daniel Fitzgerald, an OCFA probationary firefighter.

The dog was not injured and its owner assured that its paw was fine.

“His paw is perfect, it doesn’t bother him at all,” Modesti said. “Make sure you have a drain cover, or just be aware of that. It’s not weird,” he added.

The pup got lots of treats afterward and probably won’t be bathed for some time.
