According to ZDF a model of the sympathetic alien from the film “ET – The Extra-Terrestrial” was recently auctioned for a whopping 2.6 million US dollars. It is not just any model, but an original that was actually used for the film. The cult film from 1982 was the most commercially successful blockbuster ever for a long time.

The model was auctioned off last weekend in Beverly Hills by the auction house Julien’s Auctions as part of a two-day auction. The model has 85 movement points and is therefore extremely flexible. As part of the campaign, not only was the ET model distributed, but a total of more than 1,300 film props. These include Robert De Niro’s boxing gloves from Raging Bull and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Hammer from the Marvel movies. Harry Potter’s broom, for example, changed hands for $128,000. The staff that Charlton Heston used to part the Red Sea in The Ten Commandments brought in $448,000.

It is not clear who took the respective props home with them. There are certainly plenty of wealthy prospects in Beverly Hills.
