Three French streamers join forces with RMC Sport to comment on the Barcelona-Manchester United match on Twitch. A great first for such a match.

From esports to just sport… Twitch stars Domingo, Amine and Wiloo will be at the helm of an unprecedented stream, this Thursday evening from 6 p.m. For the first time, the trio will commentate from the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona, a Europa League match which will be broadcast directly on Domingo’s Twitch channel.

Owner of the rights, RMC Sport (subsidiary of Altice, just like Tech&Co) will therefore be a partner in this operation to Barcelona-Manchester United play-offalso broadcast free-to-air on RMC Story (channel 23).

Record audiences

This partnership is actually the logical continuation of a movement made by sports channels, in France and abroad, towards Twitch. The platform, mainly used to broadcast video game streams, accumulates visits and viewing records for young age groups that television is now struggling to capture.

RMC Sport had previously broadcast matches on its own Twitch channel while Eurosport had teamed up with another streamer, Rivenzi, for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

“We have the desire to create content adapted to the platforms, to become the benchmark sports brand for all targets, as evidenced by our Twitch channel, the number 1 sports media in France” welcomed Laurent Salvaudon, director of the editorial staff of RMC Sport.

Marseille on pole

In the United States, the broadcasting of NFL matches (American football) is more obvious: the broadcasting rights belong to Amazon, which in fact bought Twitch in 2014. Jeff Bezos’ group also distills certain Premier League matches (English football ) for free on its platform

In France, the movements are still timid but certain football clubs are pioneering. Last July, Olympique de Marseille broadcast two friendly matches on the platform, which has the particularity of offering a chat to make the broadcast more interactive.

In recent months, Twitch has broken audience records around sporting events organized by the main French steamers: Le GPExploreran F4 race organized by Squeezie then Eleven All Stars, a Franco-Spanish football match, followed by more than a million people. First for such a match.
