The leaders of the political formations of the Nupes, meeting on Tuesday evening noted their disagreement on the European elections but undertook to continue the mobilization on pensions.
While the 151 Nupes deputies are meeting this Wednesday for a seminar, the leaders of the alliance met on Tuesday evening to launch “phase 2” of this coalition, according to what the rebellious leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon had announced. who was not present.
The meeting, which lasted three hours, was “not intended to come out with a list of announcements”, warns a member.
Environmentalists want to count their marbles
The participants, who planned to meet again soon, agreed on the need to continue social mobilization and to support the new day of trade union action on June 6 against the pension reform.
La France insoumise (LFI), represented in particular by the coordinator Manuel Bompard and the MEP Manon Aubry, wanted the Nupes to deepen through an “agora”, local Nupes structures and “a presence together in the next elections, in especially the European elections”. But EELV reiterated without surprise its refusal of a common list for this election.
The national secretary of the environmentalist party, Marine Tondelier, had already warned before the meeting that she wanted her party to put together its own list to “get more voters” for the European elections in 2024, before a joint candidacy for the presidential election. of 2027.
“Not the end of the Nupes”
She pleaded for the Nupes to continue “with respect”, and that it allow the social struggle to “find a political outlet”. She welcomed a meeting which “had the merit of sincerity and frankness”.
On radio J Wednesday morning, Pierre Jouvet, the secretary general of the PS, who also participated in the discussions, estimated that the absence of a common list from the left to Europeans would not sign “the end of Nupes”.
“We now have the ability to move forward together to bring a single presidential candidacy in 2027,” he said, believing that “act 2 is to work on the selection method of our candidate tomorrow” and to “create an agora to open the doors and windows of the Nupes”.
According to another source, “there is a blockage with the Communists who have refused any proposal to deepen the Nupes and who have even called for building something else, speaking of the Nupes as a ball and chain”.
