Theater Kosmos presents: Dostoyevsky & Jazz
Theater am Saumarkt, Mühletorplatz 1
Hubert Dragaschnig reads “The Dream of a Ridiculous Man” by Fyodor M. Dostoyevsky.
Herwig Hammerl and his ensemble create the musical part.
“I suddenly regained my sight. It was deep night; never before has there been such darkness…. I reassured myself that I wasn’t afraid and died with delight at the thought that I wasn’t afraid.”
(from: “The Dream of a Ridiculous Man”)
“One would almost like to invent a new term for the music by Herwig Hammerl for Dostoyevsky’s “The Dream of a Ridiculous Man”: “Lesungsmusik”. In contrast to film or theater music, this does not have to go into scenes or even images – on Moods, however, very much so. Dreamy or nightmarish sounds that – like Dostoyevsky – are difficult to assign to a particular period. They certainly don’t sound like highly romantic music from the 1970s, they are more indebted to neoclassicism or postmodernism / minimal music – with extended tonality instead of a 12-tone corset, modulation instead of leaps in tone and style, with “flow” instead of “breaks”: dream sounds, reading music…” Theater Kosmos.

Maria Neuschmid & Markus Linder: DUO SUNSHINE
Theater at the Saumarkt
Duo Sunshine, aka Jimmy and Su, have been touring the country as an entertainment band for over 40 years. In the early 80s they were a hip duo that knew how to inspire with wit, humor and musicality, but today Sigi and Helga, as they are called in real life, are more or less on the sidelines. Orders are sparse, marriage is a state of affairs and the ravages of time are eroding life. But today is a good day. An appearance at Freund Hugo’s 70s gives hope and dreams of times long past.
