Everything is aligned for Xabi Alonso to be Ancelotti's successor at Madrid

With each day that passes in European football, the moment in which Real Madrid could be left without a coach gets closer. But before the alarms sound, the successor to the white bench is already visible.

Carlo Ancelotti has a guaranteed place in the Brazil national team for the summer of 2025. That would obviously leave Real Madrid without a technical director. However, Ancelotti himself believes that Spanish Xabi Alonso has everything to lead his former team.

“I thank Xabi. He has been an impressive player and is having a fantastic career as a coach because he has the perfect qualities. I like him a lot as a coach. He is one of the best and the one I like the most, along with Thiago Motta. He has the profile to be a coach at Madrid because he knows the club and is highly appreciated,” analyzed the Italian coach.

Bayer Leverkusen, a team led by Alonso, remained undefeated when facing one of the most difficult rivals in German football, Borussia Dortmund. Faced with this good streak and difficult challenge, Real Madrid’s emissaries left the BayArena satisfied, as they were delighted with what they saw from the Spanish strategist.

For his part, Alonso surrenders to Ancelotti’s experience. “In terms of human management, Carlo Ancelotti is a master. When you talk about how you want to convince the players or how to get the players to have a good relationship with you, Ancelotti is the master of all,” the Spaniard told AFP.

Xabi Alonso renewed his contract last August until 2026. However, rumors keep coming out that he will leave Bayer Leverkusen next summer. A few months ago it was revealed that he had an exit clause in 2024 in case three clubs arrived with offers: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

However, on November 20, Fernando Carro, CEO of Leverkusen, denied that information from the newspaper Bild: “Special clause for Xabi Alonso? No, you don’t need to have a clause. We have a very, very good relationship with Xabi and he knows that “We are a serious club. In the end, we are not going to force someone to stay if they don’t want to stay. We want them to feel so happy and so good with us that they really just want to stay and that is our goal,” Carro explained.

The latter leaves the door open so that the Spanish Xabi Alonso can go to Real Madrid, when Carlo Ancelotti leaves the merengue club to lead the ‘seleção’.
