“Zones without LGBT ideology”

The rights of LGBT people have been particularly threatened in Poland in recent years. “LGBTI people have been increasingly attacked by ruling politicians, religious leaders and other public figures in Poland,” notes the International. Lesbian and Gay Association on its site, which lists the various attacks over the years against LGBT rights.

“This has resulted in a dangerous and false portrayal of LGBTI people as a threat to children and as a threat to Christianity.”

In September 2021, under pressure from the European Commission, which had launched an infringement procedure against the country, Poland renounced its “LGBT ideology-free zones” decreed by certain local authorities. A hundred local authorities representing around a third of Polish territory, had adopted there since 2019 an “anti-LGBT ideology” resolution or a “charter of family rights”.
