“I came across some absolutely awful people in this environment“

Tele-Leisure : What motivated you to take part in the show who can beat us ?

Carine Galli: I love games and challenge myself on sports issues so I liked the concept. It was a lot of fun even if in this context of TV set, I had a lot more hesitations about the answers than if I had been on my couch.

You work in the same chain as your companion Giovanni Castaldi and you’re on the air together from time to time. How do you live it?

Our personal and professional lives are intimately linked but I find it easy. If I debrief a moment in the show that I didn’t like, I’ll say three words, he’ll understand right away, which wouldn’t be the case with someone doing a different job. It is also a huge advantage to be able to share our joys and our doubts.

“I know that everything can end very quickly”

Female football sports consultants are much rarer on television. Are you proud to be part of it?

I am especially proud to have achieved my dreams. I do not claim to be an example for anyone. The main thing is to achieve success. I was lucky to have parents who supported me in my career choices and I’m glad it worked but I know that everything can end very quickly.

But do you think it’s a shame not to see more women in sports journalism?

It is obviously scandalous if a person is discriminated against or put in difficulty because she is a woman. I came across absolutely repulsive people in this environment who had no consideration for me but I also met extremely benevolent men who made me grow professionally.

At no time did you feel blocked by certain behaviors to the point of giving up?

I experienced the constant advances of an editor. It’s very personal but I find this kind of characters pathetic and grotesque so it didn’t traumatize me. At that time, I did not depend on only one employer, fortunately, so I experienced it differently.

You do fewer duplexes than before. What are the reasons ?

Before, I was always on the move, it was my number 1 objective. For 13 years now, I think I have been around. The duplexes are a lot of precautions to take when arriving at the stadium. And it’s true that the behavior of some supporters contributes to this distance that I have taken with the field.

Viewers could see that you do not allow yourself to be confronted by certain unscrupulous fans…

If I get teased by someone, of course I fight back but after that it’s not my daily life either. It’s only happened a few times and when it does it gets more hype in the media. Afterwards, even if it’s only once, it’s already once too many!

“Like me, Estelle Denis is a fan of Patrick Bruel”

You worked for a long time alongside Estelle Denis on the show Estelle’s Team. What is your relationship with her today?

We are still in contact, we get along well and not because she is a woman who evolves in sports journalism like me. He’s a cash person with a strong character so it matches well. We also have in common to be both fans of Patrick Bruel and Scrabble! (laughs).

You are regularly Grégory Asher’s joker in addition to acting as a columnist. Which role do you prefer?

I thrive a lot in the presentation because there is a little more freedom and madness but I also have other desires. I love shows that talk about travel like Echappées Belles, A train like no other or 66 minutes which present destinations that I enjoy.

Are you tired of football?

I’m still passionate but I took a distance. I will no longer spend my weekends in stadiums. Football still drives me but it’s not 100% of my life anymore.
