Comisionado de Paz sobre supuestos atentados del ELN

During an interview with RTVC NewsDanilo Rueda expressed his concern about the way in which the information was handled and the communication process was carried out regarding an alleged ELN attack plan against prosecutor Barbosa.

The persistent issue of internal conflict in Colombia has held a critical place for decades, and the search for peace has been a constant priority for both the government and the country’s institutions. In this context, the denunciation of an attack plan attributed to the ELNIt is of great importance and delicacy.

Rueda questioned why Prosecutor Barbosa did not follow the institutional procedures in the complaint against the ELN

Rueda raised concerns about how the Attorney General Barbosa initially communicated the complaint about the alleged attack by the ELN through a press release, which raised questions about the accuracy of the information and the security that should surround this type of statement. In lieu of public disclosure, the High Commissioner for Peace suggested that claims related to possible attacks should be handled more confidentially and subject to extensive discussion before being released to the public.

Besides, Rueda questioned why Prosecutor Barbosa did not follow institutional procedures and did not first inform the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petroabout the situation with the ELN.

According to Rueda, if the information was available from July and the Citizen Participation Table was established on August 3, it would have been more appropriate to share such information with the relevant authorities before taking public action. This lack of prior communication has raised questions about the handling of the situation and the collaboration between the different institutions of the country.
