Something caught your eye: Carmen and Robert Geiss underwent surgery because of their eyesight. Now there is debate about how expensive the lenses were.

At first glance, the photo looks a bit disturbing. Carmen and Robert Geiss are sitting blindfolded on a leather couch, to their right is a woman who is apparently a friend – also on one of her eyes a large bandage with plaster. Robert Geiss sits in the middle, hugs the two blond women next to him, grins.

So it doesn’t seem to be bad about the TV fame of RTLzwei. On the contrary. The couple want to get rid of their glasses and have undergone an operation to do so. Carmen Geiss writes: “So the first eye is made, tomorrow we will continue on the ladder of success”.

In a video released before the quirky photo, the 57-year-old also says she’s going to have “surgery” and has had “some tests.” “Keep your fingers crossed, I’m a bit nervous now. But the examinations were top-notch,” says Carmen Geiss.

Both she and her husband Robert, who is two years older than her, have had a lens implanted. Such so-called multifocal lenses can permanently replace contact lenses and glasses, i.e. they are intended to compensate for long-sightedness or short-sightedness as required. According to Carmen Geiss, the procedure should only take 15 minutes per eye. She decided to do it because she “always got a headache from wearing glasses,” she writes.

Up to 18,000 euros for the eye operation?

The operation was carried out by an ophthalmologist friend of mine in Germany, and he flew home in a private jet. Now the fans are wondering what the Geissens have cost. Numerous users ask in the comments, there is talk of up to 9,000 euros per eye, but Carmen Geiss does not answer.

According to the doctor’s portal “Centroklinik”, “the costs for the implantation of an artificial lens including follow-up examinations are between approx. 680 euros and 3,000 euros per eye, depending on the type of lens.” Apparently, the most important thing is the diopters, i.e. the visual acuity – and there are also big differences in the quality of the lenses, after all they should last a lifetime in the best case.
