Racing fans and residents alike now have a better understanding of what to expect when the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix takes place November 16-18.

Gates will open at 6 pm for practice on Thursday, November 16, according to the schedule posted on the MGM Resorts Grand Prix page. Drivers are scheduled to be at the track between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm Thursday and between midnight and 1 am Friday.

On Friday the pilots will participate in a round of practice, followed by qualifying. Gates for fans will open at 6pm, with the final practice round taking place between 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Afterwards, the drivers will compete for their place on the grid during qualifying, which will be held between midnight and 1 am on Saturday.

Saturday will be the day of the race, in which the drivers will complete 50 laps of the 3.8-mile circuit. Gates for fans will open at 6 pm The race is scheduled for 10 pm The race is expected to be completed in two hours.

In order for the race to take place, several road closures will be in place in and around the station corridor.

The installation of the barriers that will border the track will begin a couple of weeks before the race, according to Joslyn Garcia, a spokeswoman for the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The process of installing the barrier will not imply the closure of any roads in the long term. It will be implemented through rotation and select lane closures.

On each day of racing-related activities (Thursday through Saturday), the circuit will begin to close at 5 p.m., with a full closure at 7 p.m., Garcia said.

Roads that will be closed during racing-related events include:

– Southbound Las Vegas Boulevard between Genting Boulevard and Aria Place.

– Sands Avenue entre Las Vegas Boulevard y Howard Hughes Parkway.

– Harmon Avenue entre Sands y Lamar Circle.

– Koval Lane entre Sands y Tompkins Avenue.

– Spring Mountain Road entre Via Del Nord y Linq Lane.

– Eastbound Flamingo Road between Mel Torme Way and Las Vegas Boulevard.

After each day of racing, the barriers will be re-positioned to allow the roads to reopen to the public at 2am. This means that the race track will be open to normal vehicle traffic during the day.
