Today, markets in the state of Tipaza in Algeria saw a significant drop in the price of green onions, from 180 DZD per kg to 50 DZD per kg. This collapse coincides with the harvest of green onions in the northern cities and their arrival in large quantities in the Wadi Souf region.

Markets and new outlets along national and departmental roads across the wilaya are witnessing the display of large quantities of freshly harvested green onions at affordable prices. Previously, the price of this product had risen to DZD 180 per kg due to insufficient supply and speculation.

The influx of green onions could influence the fall in the price of red onions, the cost of which recently reached a record level of 300 DZD per kg. This situation has provoked both condemnation and mockery, as many believe that the surge in onion prices is an unprecedented phenomenon on the Algerian market.

Red onion price: consumers are calling boycott

Faced with the massive arrival of green onions on the market and the collapse of their prices, consumers have expressed their satisfaction. At the same time, calls have been made to boycott the purchase of red onions until their price returns to a reasonable level.

In this context, the State Association for the Protection and Promotion of the Consumer and its Environment of the State of Tipaza published a post on its official Facebook page, commenting on the fall in the price of green onions and qualifying it as ” blessing “.

This comment highlights the importance of solidarity among consumers in the face of soaring red onion prices and encourages efforts to bring prices down to an acceptable level for all.
