After finishing his last day as coach of the Qatari national team, DT Félix Sánchez announced yesterday that after five and a half years in charge of the team he decided “not to renew the link” in a mutual agreement with the Federation.

“(Félix) Sánchez has directed the National Team for the last five and a half years in one of his most successful periods” began by saying the official statement of the body that governs the football destinations of the Asian emirate. “Both the coach and the QFA have jointly decided that now is a good time to start a new chapter”added the text.

“The last five and a half years have been an opportunity of a lifetime. I want to thank President Sheikh Hamad, the country’s leaders for the support and trust during a period in which we achieved a lot together.”explained the 47-year-old coach.

“Qatar, its football and its people will always be in my heart. Now is the time for others to take responsibility for the team.”said the Catalan coach.

The head of the QFA, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani stated that Sánchez “has not only been the coach but a true friend.” “The Qatari football family will always be grateful to him for his successes”he claimed.

In the last World Cup that had said local team, the team finished in last place in Group A, after defeats against Ecuador (0-2), Senegal (1-3) and the Netherlands (0-2).
