The Duisburg fire brigade reported on Sunday morning that New Year’s Eve was “restless and work-intensive”. Accordingly, there were 381 missions, not even including the police. Also this year, emergency services from the fire brigade and rescue service were harassed and insulted by people, and in three cases fireworks were fired in the direction of the emergency services or their vehicles. Nobody was injured. In one case, however, the emergency services had to withdraw and could only act under the protection of the police.
Because people had already fired firecrackers and rockets at trams on Thursday and Friday – fireworks also flew into the vehicles – the DVG reacted and diverted line 903 on New Year’s Eve as on the previous evenings. Go here for the report.

Videos in social networks show rioting youths or young men from Duisburg and other cities. A video is said to have been made in Homberg; in it, people shoot firework rockets across the streets and throw garbage cans around.
