Even though the development of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is accelerating, the second part of the remake of Final Fantasy VII continues to be largely shrouded in mystery. Square Enix still showed little of the game, which is still without a precise release date.

Despite this, the Japanese company never misses an opportunity to keep fans updated, when possible revealing small details on the development of Rebirth and background on the entire project connected to Final Fantasy VII Remake. During an interview with VG247the producer Yoshinori Kitase in particular, he focused on the reasons that prompted the development team to change the plot of the original classic for PS1 (which he himself directed at the time), thus allowing the Remake to go its own way.

We approached the Final Fantasy VII Remake project with the aim of creating something that was enjoyable both by fans of the original game and by those who didn’t know it“, explains Kitase, who continues: “I had experiences with a game that I loved and enjoyed that was then remade, I took it out of nostalgia. It was fun at first, but the nostalgia-driven fun only lasted until the early stages of the game, I realized it and didn’t go any further. For this reason I decided that FFVII Remake should not only be based on nostalgia, but also should offer a new story to be both nostalgic and fresh at the same time“.

For several fans, the plot of the first part of the Remake deviated too much from the original narrative, but Kitase confirms that the team plans to continue along this path: “The consequence of the changes is that, for the second and third parts, we have put on the fans the strong curiosity to find out which parts will be 100% faithful to the original game, and which instead will offer new elements“.

The original Final Fantasy VII – concludes the producer on the matter – it’s been loved by fans for over 20 years, but I started to think I didn’t want the game to end up being just an archival stuff. I want to make it a game that will continue to be loved for another 100 years, and this is where Final Fantasy VII Remake comes in.“.

While waiting for more substantial news from Square Enix, let’s recap what we know about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and what to expect from the second part of the project.
