No explosives were found at the scene by police. A complaint has been filed by the newspaper and an investigation is underway.
The Breton weekly newspaper The Poher was targeted this Monday morning by a bomb threat in Carhaix (Finistère), according to West France. It was an employee of the newspaper who arrived at 9 a.m. who received a threatening telephone call.
“The person said: ‘Hello, the rots of Poher, we’re all going to die. We put a bomb in the writing you’re going to jump,’ says the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Erwann Chartier-Le Floch, to West France.
The six people who were in the establishment evacuated the editorial office. The Carhaix gendarmerie went to the scene to secure the scene, as well as a member of the maritime gendarmerie team from Île Longue accompanied by an explosive sniffer dog. The animal did not detect any explosives at the scene.
A complaint has been filed and an investigation is underway, according to the newspaper.
The third death threat
It’s not the first time that The Poher is threatened. “This is the third death threat received since January 31”, specifies Erwann Chartier-Le Floch. The first two were received by mail and telephone and have already been the subject of two complaints.
The editor-in-chief then explained to the newspaper that these threats seemed to come from “the ultra-right movement” because of their “racist dimension” and their temporality. They were received after the newspaper’s coverage of the mobilization of opponents of a refugee reception project in Callac (Côtes-d’Armor).
The journalists had in particular “documented the arrival of identity and xenophobic groups which had also tried to hinder the work of the reporters at the end of a rally of supporters of Eric Zemmour on November 5”, specifies the National Union of Journalists in a press release.
The representatives of the sector also indicate “reaffirming its full support for the Poher team”.
