Bottrop.
It is thanks to attentive neighbors that an apartment owner in the city of Bottrop got away with the shock. There was a fire in his kitchen.

Attentive neighbors probably prevented worse things from happening in downtown Bottrop: around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday night, they alerted the fire brigade because they had noticed a smoke detector and a slight smell of burning in an apartment building on the Alter Südring.

The owner was still in the apartment and opened the door for the fire department. The emergency services escorted him outside. The fire in the kitchen had already gone out, reports the fire brigade, but the apartment was heavily smoked. The emergency services ventilated them. According to the fire department, the other residential units were not affected.

“Due to the alarm of the smoke detector and the quick reaction of the neighbors, the apartment owner got away with the shock and was able to stay in the apartment after the investigation by the rescue service,” said the fire brigade.

The police have opened an investigation into the cause of fire. (red)
