NEW YORK — A 5-alarm fire has burned for about 8 hours and consumed an apartment building in the Bronx since Sunday night, authorities said. At least four people were injured and dozens of families were displaced.

According to the fire department report, more than 200 firefighters began battling the flames shortly before 7:00 p.m. at the 6-story building located at 1420 noble bird. Firefighters managed to completely control the incident until Monday at about 4:00 in the morning.

The fire appeared to start in the ceiling, the space before the ceiling, fire marshals said.

In total, 4 residents were slightly injured and a child under 4 years of age was taken to the hospital for evaluation for smoke inhalation. A firefighter was also taken to a hospital but is recovering.

Dozens of families were displaced and are being cared for by the Red Cross. According to its most recent data, the Red Cross registered 50 households (113 people, 93 adults, 20 children) and provided emergency shelter to 29 households.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. It is under investigation.
