Fire in Hollywood Hills threatens homes

A fire broke out in the Hollywood Hills Saturday, threatening homes and shutting down a busy section of Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. at 1639 Laurel Canyon Blvd., near the east end of Hollywood Boulevard, with about 1 acre of moderate to heavy fuels burning slowly uphill with no wind, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The department announced a short time later that four homes were threatened, but said that “because of proper brush clearance at the site, they have a good defensible space and firefighters can pour water on the fire while defending the homes.”

There were no evacuation orders yet, but Laurel Canyon Boulevard was closed between Mulholland and Hollywood Boulevard.

Additional crews were working to access the seat of the fire and deploy progressive hoses to surround the fire, the LAFD said.

Resources from the Beverly Hills Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department were also on scene to assist.
