The Bottrop fire brigade extinguished a roof truss fire on the property. Initial fears that another person was missing in the top floor apartment luckily proved to be unfounded. All residents got out unharmed, the fire brigade took two cats out of the house.

The fire brigade was alerted at 11.47 a.m. to the roof fire on Wildestraße on the Eigen. As a result of the report, the Bottrop fire brigade deployed with a fire engine and also with the Eigen volunteer fire brigade. When the first forces arrived, the roof structure of an apartment building was fully engulfed in flames. The fire already spread to the neighboring building, one person was missing in the attic.

Two squads wearing respiratory protection immediately began to look for the person in the affected area. Due to the situation, the fire brigade alerted other forces. After an extensive search for people, no person could be found in the attic. Everyone was outside the building and no one was injured. As the operation progressed, two cats were rescued.






Because of the heavy smoke, the police warned residents via Facebook and the warning app “Nina” to keep windows and doors closed. But there was no health risk.

At around 3:30 p.m., the fire brigade reported: The fire is under control, but post-extinguishing work is still ongoing: “The end of the operation is not yet foreseeable.” The Bottrop fire brigade was on site with 100 emergency services. The volunteer fire brigade in the old town and Kirchhellen ensured basic protection for further operations in the city area.
