On Monday May 1, the Teahupoo peninsula was the scene of violent flooding. On site, the waters washed away everything, causing significant material damage. The inhabitants try to think about their wounds.
In French Polynesia, a car drifts towards the Pacific Ocean, carried away by the waves. Monday May 1, the peninsula of Teacup, Olympic site, is flooded. The parked vehicles, swept away by the flood, are numerous. A strong swell, associated with waterspouts, caused the rivers to overflow. Torrents of mud swell and reach 1m50 in height, in front of helpless inhabitants.
“I lost everything”
Water seeps into homes. A hundred homes were damaged and three people were slightly injured. On the morning of Tuesday May 2, the diggers tried to evacuate the thick layers of mud. A man must find his belongings washed away by the flood. “My washing machine, I don’t know where it is. I lost everything,” he laments. Faced with the strong swell, the authorities always call for caution. Yellow vigilance is maintained in Tahiti.
