There was a fire in the garage of the Unicenter in Bochum-Querenburg on the evening of Christmas Day. The Bochum fire brigade was on site with a large contingent. At around 7:35 p.m., the automatic fire alarm system reported the fire in the underground car park under the high-rise complex.

“Several paper waste containers burned,” says head of operations Sandra Mikas when asked by the editors. The fire brigade extinguished the container, there was a lot of smoke. Pictures show the completely smoky underground car park.

Firefighters are still checking the adjacent high-rise buildings to ensure that toxic smoke does not endanger the residents. But people could have stayed in their homes. The fire itself was “locally limited,” it said. According to the fire department, the police are on site to determine the cause of the fire.
