In the 2015-16 season, Leicester City sensationally won the Premier League title – led by 24-goal scorer Jamie Vardy, 17-goal scorer Riyad Mahrez and star goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel – but since then much water has flown under the bridges over the River Soar.

After the surprise victory, Leicester have belonged to the upper middle tier with positions 12, 9, 9, 5, 5 and 8 – but now it looks like it will end badly for the club from the middle of England.

In Monday’s match, Liverpool beat Leicester 3-0 and ensured that the club’s situation worsened further. Curtis Jones scored two goals and Trent Alexander-Arnold one.

With two games left to play, Leicester are second last in the table, with only hopeless Southampton behind. Leeds have one point more than Leicester and Everton two. Leicester still face Newcastle away and West Ham at home.

For Liverpool, the victory was important in that the hope of playing in the Champions League next season is alive.
