Central Texas contains natural wonders for families to enjoy and this summer, with the high temperatures approaching, you can escape the heat with a dip in the water.

These are some natural holes with crystalline waters:

  • Comal River in New Braunfels. The famous natural body of water is fed by a spring that has been the main attraction of the city.
  • Gorman Falls located in Colorado Bend State Park. Although a bit far from San Antonio, it is an ideal place for a family outing as there are multiple pools that form along the Colorado River and hides a beautiful waterfall.
  • Hamilton Pool Preserve in Austin. The tidal pool sits below a 40 foot waterfall and has areas for hiking. Before visiting, go to their website to separate your space.
  • Hippie Hollow in Austin. It is Lake Travis’ famous “clothing optional” swimming hole. It is considered the only public nude beach in Texas. The entrance to the park is restricted to those over 18 years of age.
  • San Marcos River in San Marcos. The place has many areas to do the famous tubing and enjoy the cold waters. It is a popular spot and visitors to the river enjoy tubing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling and fishing in the crystal clear waters.

Most of these parks keep people informed about the water conditions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), before going to a lake, river or beach it is recommended to check online if the swimming area is currently monitored, under advisory or has been closed for health or safety reasons.

In addition, the CDC recommends avoiding entering the water if it looks cloudier than usual, has changed color, or smells bad.
