A five-year-old boy lost his life after being stabbed by his twin brother following a fight.

The events occurred on Wednesday around 4:00 pm in Santa Cruz County, California, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Police officers responded to the 200 block of Tucker Road, in unincorporated Scotts Valley, after a report of a fight between two five-year-old twins, the station cited. Telemundo23.

During the altercation, one of the children He took a small kitchen knife and stabbed his twin brother, who died upon arriving at the hospital.

Despite efforts by marshals, emergency personnel and the hospital’s medical team, the injured boy could not be saved, the official said.

In a statement, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office announced that, after a thorough investigation, no charges will be filed against any of those involved.

It was explained that California Law establishes that age, criminal intent and knowledge of wrongfulness are necessary factors to charge a child with a crime, and in this case, there is no indication of negligence or criminal activity by any of the parties, including parents.

“We are heartbroken for the family of these two children and we share your pain,” the statement said.
