Floods in Miami and South Florida leave impressive images

South Florida is facing heavy rains that will last until Saturday and that have caused significant flooding, tornadoes, highway closures, suspension of classes and cancellations of nearly 300 flights in recent hours.

The images of Hundreds of cars circulating on avenues turned into rivers are going viral at full speed.

Quite a few drivers have been left stranded with their cars in the middle of the street.

One of the viral videos is that of a brand new Bentley flooded that its driver was forced to abandon.

Some stretches of Interstate 95 in Broward and Miami-Dade had to temporarily close.

The mayor of Miami-Dade, Daniella Levine Cavadeclared a local state of emergency on Wednesday night, effective immediately, in response to inclement weather.

“As our departments work to keep residents and businesses safe, this is a necessary step to protect the health, safety and well-being of our entire community,” the mayor said on social network X.

Some universities have temporarily suspended classes, while the Flightaware platform, which counts canceled and delayed flights, reported at least 285 canceled flights at the Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports.

More rain is forecast for the rest of the week, prompting the Miami weather service office to extend a flash flood watch through Thursday. Some places could see another 15 centimeters (6 inches) of rain.
