Florida could break record for travelers on Christmas and New Year

MIAMI.- Florida could break his record Travellers in the season of Christmas and New Year’s, when it is estimated that more than six million Floridians have their suitcases ready to head to other destinations via highways and airports.

Figures from the American Automobile Association (AAA) indicate that 6.6 million Floridians would travel during the upcoming celebrations, which is a 3.4% increase from 6.4 million a year ago.

AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins explained that this increase could be related to the fact that Christmas and New Year’s Day in 2023 fall on Mondays and that “traveling on weekends is easier”.

AAA forecasts also indicate that the busiest days on the roads would be Saturday, December 23, Thursday, December 28, and Saturday, December 30.

Jenkins recommended that “if you are thinking about taking a road trip, You should leave early if you can.before lunch time or even after dinner.”

As for the airports, the AAA spokesperson said they expect to see these terminals “crowded.” About 7.5 million air trips are expected during the holidays.

Recommendation to travelers

For the association, it is necessary to take precautions, so it recommended to travelers invest in travel insurance.

In this regard, Jenkins said that “maybe people think they don’t need it. But realistically, if you are stuck at the airport, travel insurance can be extremely beneficial.”

For her part, Debbie Haas, AAA vice president of travel, put the growth in the number of travelers during the end of the year celebrations.

“AAA has experienced consistent year-over-year growth in travel demand, culminating in what is expected to be the busiest holiday travel season on record in Florida, and the second busiest nationally.” , he remarked.

AAA numbers show that 115.2 million people in the country will travel 50 miles or more from home during the 10-day holiday period covering Christmas and New Year’s, an increase of 2.2% over last year.
