Florida man arrested after driving drunk and killing woman in wheelchair on Christmas Eve

A 67-year-old man was arrested after driving drunk and killing a woman in a motorized wheelchair on Christmas Eve in Lakeland, Polk County, Florida.

Howard Bennett was charged with DUI manslaughter with property damage following the crash that occurred on West Pipkin Road near Fairfield Drive Sunday night, local media reported.

The victim, Leslie Stone, 40, was hit by Bennett’s car while heading east on West Pipkin Road.

Police arrived at the scene and observed Bennett having difficulty walking, his eyes were bloodshot and watery, and he was speaking with difficulty.

After performing the sobriety test and seeing that his alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit, the subject was arrested.
