Follow the fund that seeks to contain the price of bread / file

The Secretariat of Commerce of the Nation updated the reference prices of flour within the framework of the Wheat Stabilization Fund. The values ​​for the 25-kilogram bags were $1,417 for the 000 flour and $1,700 for the 0000 type; while for tapas flour and semolin it was set at $1,842.

In the case of the ton, it was established at $55,617 for 000 flour and at $66,725 for 0000; and for tapas and semolin $72,298.

In all cases, this is a 9 percent increase from the latest prices set in early July.

The increases take into account as a reference the price variation (FAS) of wheat by 40 percent, the monthly variation of wholesale inflation by 30 percent and the monthly variation of wages by the other 30 percent.

The prices are without taxes, at the exit of the mill, without delivery costs, and they must include the following logistics costs by region: for example in the city and province of Buenos Aires, 3.50 percent.

The increase reaffirms the continuity of the Fund, an instrument dedicated to containing the price of bread, after rumors that pointed to its elimination.

The Secretary of Commerce, Matías Tombolini, assured at the beginning of the month that “there is no intention to eliminate” the fund but that it seeks to “optimize” its operation, pointing to an alternative mechanism that directly subsidizes bakeries and directing the subsidy only to flour to produce bread.

The Fund ordered on March 19, “due to the sustained increase in food prices” that “had a strong impact on wheat, corn, sunflower and their derivatives from the start of the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine ”.

The implementation of subsidized prices seeks to guarantee a reference value for wheat in the domestic market, “that allows maintaining stability in the share of the flour bag as a component of the cost of the products derived from it.”
