NRW.
Friday is testimony day in NRW! But because many students were ill for a long time before Christmas, there is also talk of “stress”.

For most of the approximately 2.5 million schoolchildren in North Rhine-Westphalia, the half-year reports are due on Friday. The date is early compared to previous years. According to the NRW Ministry of Education, the dates of the holidays play a role, among other things: the summer holidays start on June 22nd. Overall, according to the ministry, the 2022/23 school year will not be shorter than previous school years.

“Sick leave high before Christmas”: Stress during class work

According to the teachers’ union VBE, all dates have been organized according to the end of the half-year. “Unfortunately, the sick leave among the students before Christmas was very high, which created the situation that work had to be written up immediately after the holidays, which caused stress in the schools,” said VBE state chairwoman Anne Deimel of the dpa.

The chairman of the State Parents’ Conference of North Rhine-Westphalia, Christian Beckmann, made a similar statement. Due to the high level of sick leave, absences and the upcoming deadline for the half-year reports, the pressure to perform in the schools was great, he said. Even teachers would have groaned. The scope of mandatory work should have been reduced.

Half-year reports in NRW: 2023 dates are the same everywhere

In the 2022/23 school year, the deadline for handing out the half-year reports at the Hauptschulen, Realschulen, comprehensive schools, grammar schools, special needs schools, secondary schools and vocational colleges (with the exception of the vocational school course) is Friday, January 20, 2023. The primary schools can request the certificates of the Ministry of Education between Monday 16th January and Friday 20th January. (dpa)
