Tijuana (Mexico), May 11 (EFE).- Fast food distributors in the Mexican city of Tijuana began to arrive this Thursday at the borders of the camp between the border walls, where around 400 migrants of various nationalities spend the night, increasing the number of product prices up to 100 dollars.

The migrants stranded in this area waiting to be processed for their asylum applications have shared that necessity has led them to pay these amounts, but that they receive little in donations from the foundations and what is provided by the Border Patrol in the morning.

Some of the vendors consulted by EFE assure that the prices they are offering for food products such as pizzas and chicken are fair, however, when questioned, some of them became upset and decided not to answer.

Two of the vendors who decided to omit their names, who work through the applications, shared with EFE that they have been receiving orders through the application, which has intensified since last Wednesday.

“We bring you pizzas, chickens, sodas, cigarettes and everything you ask for,” said the person, who pointed out that this was his second day going to the border to provide food to migrants, another of the people said the same. from his own company, who said that “we have done well with the grape harvest”, who added that he has three applications through which he provides the services.

Antonio, another of the delivery men, told EFE that it is in the mornings when migrants usually place orders simultaneously, some of them desperately once they reach the wall, since they are people who do not have a cell phone or who they have run out of battery, so from the bars they stick out their hands and yell at them to take their orders.

CRITICAL SITUATION IN THE CAMP

A mother of a family, from Ecuador, who asked to keep her name for safety, told EFE that inside the camp “there is a very tough situation”, because from the start they only have a portable toilet for the people who live there. In addition, the US authorities have given priority to families and not to single women.

“It is not fair, because we should go entering as we are arriving and we have passed, just as you see under the sun, hungry and suffering, we are like in the times before, suffering a lot and what we want is to enter, because at night the Cold is inhumane, we cried from the cold and it rained more than last night,” he said.

The migrant woman highlighted that the Border Patrol in the mornings “only distributes them granola and a bottle of water for the whole day,” for which she thanked the people who bring them food during the day, since otherwise they have to adjust to the prices of the distributors.

Nicole Elizabeth Ramos, director of the organization Al Otro Lado, considered it a “shameful” act that people are taking advantage of the situation of migrants and are selling them food at higher prices, considering that they are essential to subsist.

“It is a disgrace, how are they going to sell things to those people who are trapped by the two walls between Mexico and the United States? People are starving, they can’t be selling their stuff like that, they should be ashamed,” he considered.

For these reasons, Nicole and the Al Otro Lado team attended the wall on Thursday to bring some food, clothing, and drinks for the people who need it most inside the camp, as well as other personal hygiene items for adults and children.

Something that people from other foundations and citizens are also doing, as could be seen in the tour carried out by EFE, who selflessly have been contributing to prevent vendors from continuing to take advantage of the situation.
