Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter had four children, 12 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Carter, who governed the United States between 1977 and 1981, and was defeated by Ronald Reagan after his first term, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his humanitarian work.

The former president visited Cuba in 2002 and 2011. In 2002, he became the first former president of the United States to arrive on the island after the triumph of the Revolution.
