Formula 1 shows support for Ralf Schumacher after revealing he has a same-sex partner

BUDAPEST.- Lewis Hamilton and other figures of the Formula 1 supported former driver Ralf Schumacher after the German announced that he has a same-sex partner.

Schumacher, 49, is the younger brother of F1 legend Michael Schumacher and raced at the circuit between 1997 and 2007, winning six races. He recently posted a photo of himself and his partner on social media with the caption: “The most beautiful thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side to share everything with.”

Hamilton, who has been an outspoken supporter of diversity in sport as well as LGBTQ rights and other causes, said he hopes Schumacher’s decision will prompt others to come out publicly.

“I think he definitely wasn’t comfortable saying that in the past and it’s not something new,” Hamilton said ahead of the Hungarian GP. “But I think it shows that we’re at a point where you can finally step up and not be afraid.”

“Just by taking that step it sends a positive message and frees up others to do the same and we need more and more people to do the same,” said the Mercedes driver.

Other drivers also supported Schumacher, including veteran Fernando Alonso, who competed at the same time as the German.

“Congratulations to him,” said Alonso. “All the support from me and I’m sure from the entire F1 community.”

End of the season for Tiger Woods:

Tiger Woods’ season came to an end Friday at the British Open after he missed the cut for the third consecutive time at a major, following a six-over-par round of 77.

Woods set a Masters record by making the cut 24 times in a row. That was the last tournament this year — of five he played — in which he made it to the weekend.

Woods opened the Open with a round of 79 at Royal Troon and was never really in contention to make the cut after 36 holes. He had a double bogey on the second hole even before the wind became a factor and one birdie in the entire round.

Woods said he will not play again until December, at his unofficial Hero World Challenge tournament in the Bahamas and at the PNC Championship with his son.

This was the first time since 2019 that Woods felt healthy enough to play in all four majors. It is the second time in his career that he has missed the cut in the last three majors.
