The Municipality released a report that concludes that between 2018 and 2022 the number of recycled waste increased by 66%. Thanks to this work to guarantee an inclusive and sustainable service, last year more than 26,600 tons were exceeded.

“Through concrete and comprehensive policies, we achieve a modern management that takes into account not only the protection of the environment, but also health care and social inclusion”highlighted from the Commune.

Within this framework, as can be seen in the latest report prepared by the Commune, During all of 2022, 26,630 tons of waste were recycled, 66% more than in 2018 (when the figure was 15,980)., achieving that less and less waste ended up unnecessarily in the CEAMSE. It should be noted that in 2019 the Municipality increased the dry waste collection area by 50%, going from 10,000 to 15,000 blocks.

In addition, the operation of some twenty Green Points distributed in different neighborhoods of the City and the implementation of municipal programs to reuse oil, electronic devices, batteries, toners, pruning remains and single-use plastics were also highlighted.

In La Plata, in addition to the house-to-house service for the usual household waste collection, More than 700 containers are in operation in the urban area, the installation of which continues to expand every month within the framework of a program that plans to reach 1,500 units in 2023..

Unusual waste, which is that which cannot be bagged due to its size, shape, magnitude or characteristics (such as branches, construction materials, furniture, among others) also has its specific service, to guarantee the cleanliness and order of the city.

Finally, dry or recyclable residues are those that, thanks to their physical or chemical properties, can be reused or incorporated into the manufacture of new products. These are collected door to door and received at Green Points or during Eco-Exchange days promoted by the Commune.

As can be seen in the communal report, the used vegetable oil recovery program reached 12,530 liters in 2022: 10,000 of them were contributed by gastronomic businesses, while the rest came from private residents. Likewise, eight tons of used covers (approximately 7,500 units), three tons of notebook batteries, 100 cubic meters of electronic devices, one ton of toners and cartridges, and 400 kilograms of disused lighting were given a new opportunity. The Commune also converted 1,800 tons of forest residues into chips, which it uses as fertilizer for public trees, and carried out pilot tests for the conversion of single-use plastics and pruning remains into fuel at the Cementos Avellaneda plant, located in Olavarria.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the Municipality signed an agreement with the Argentine Chamber of Non-Alcoholic Beverage Industries (Cadibsa) for the recovery of 1,000 tons of plastic bottles and thus promote their recovery. From the same, Cadibsa will contribute 10 green points and 100 recycling islands for schools and institutions in the city.
