This weekend one of the most important sporting events of the year took place in Mexico City. The Formula E engines roared in their 2023 edition, at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome.
The sporting event accommodated some 40,000 fans who witnessed the return of the electric formulas, as we remember that during 2022, the pandemic marked the transfer of the races to the Miguel E. Abed racetrack, in Puebla.
Passion with sustainability
It is worth mentioning that it was the first race of the GEN3 era of Formula E, with the special guest, the ABB Formula E Gen 3, the third iteration of the serial electric racing car.
It is a special vehicle due to its characteristics with 75% more power and six times the capacity to regenerate energy, which allows it to reach a top speed of 322 kilometers per hour, 95% more efficient in energy regeneration and promising to do every this sport more sustainable.
Since its founding, Formula E has sought to accelerate the adoption and development of electric vehicles, to achieve sustainability and remain the first sport in the world to have a net zero carbon footprint. Under the Science Based Targets initiative, the commitment is to further reduce the championship’s emissions by 45% by 2030.
The winners
Finally, the headquarters in CDMX was able to witness the exciting trajectory of the cars that left the British driver Jake Dennis, from the Andretti Autosport team in the electric category, as the winner.
It was on lap 18 that Pascal Wehrlein moved ahead of Jake Hughes and Lucas di Grassi to move into second with Porsche, 7.8sec clear of first place in the first race of the GEN3 era of Formula E.
Mahindra Racing’s Di Grassi ended the race in third place despite being the favorite to take the third win in Mexico, but moved into the front row ahead of the next matchup.
The rest of the drivers put in a great turnout and are looking forward to the future pair of night races in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on January 27-28, 2023, a competition to watch for.
