Some of the key developers who previously worked on Microsoft’s Forza Horizon series have now announced that they have left Playground Games to form their own studio, Maverick Games.

Former Forza Horizon creative director Mike Brown leads the UK studio as both director and creative director. The leadership of Maverick also consists of people who previously worked at, among others, Sumo Digital and EA, so there are heavy names gathered.

According to VGC Maverick has received a significant amount of money to work on its first title, which is reportedly an open-world game, but we have yet to hear if it will also be a racing title.

Mike Brown has released a short statement about the formation of the Mavericks, where he says, among other things, that “our goal is for Maverick Games to be a studio people will love”. He also says that the studio should be a place where everyone is encouraged to take risks and be creative.
