Many airlines serve the national territory from Paris-Orly airport in France. In particular, Air Algérie, Air France and Transavia. In addition, for the next summer season, this Paris airport has decided to reduce the number of its international flights.

A decision which was announced on January 31 by Pascal de Izaguirre, the president of the FNAM. Indeed, according to the latter, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation plans, for the next summer of 2023, to reduce the programs from 25 to 20 flights between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.

A very strategic time slot for airlines, which are already starting to worry about the duration of these restrictions.

Summer 2023: Paris-Orly airport wants to limit its flights

This new decision by the DGAC was justified, initially, by a lack of air traffic controllers. The latter, according to Air Journal, causes significant delays which will particularly affect low cost airlines, which provide many rotations to several destinations in the world, in this niche.

Furthermore, the DGAC explained this decision by the time it takes to recruit new air traffic controllers. For its part, the airport nuisance control authority considers that this limitation of flights at Paris Orly airport is necessary. In particular, to control the reinforcement of air programs to and from Orly, planned for the next summer season.

Indeed, according to ACNUSA, the strong competition from airlines on this time slot leads to disruptions, even cancellations of several flights. An episode already experienced by the same airport enclosure, during the summer of 2022.

Paris Airport – Orly: one more strike next week?

As a reminder, this same Paris airport had previously recorded two days of strike following the movement against the pension reform in France. Indeed, on January 19, the national airline company previously announced the risk of disruption to its flights to and from France.

In addition, the USAC announced on Wednesday February 1 that it had filed a strike notice for next Tuesday to call for a new mobilization against this pension reform. During previous strike movements, on January 19 and 31, the general direction of civil aviation in France ordered airlines departing from Paris Orly airport to cancel 20% of their flights, will she for this new strike movement?
