Most of the new brigades will be mobile trucks “for field redeployment” in rural areas.

“This investment is historic,” said the French head of state during a visit to a barracks in Tonneins, in southwestern France. This effort must partially compensate for the more than 500 brigades suppressed between 2007 and 2016, emphasizes the Elysée Palace.

“People need your presence because it reassures, discourages and accompanies,” added President Macron.

Of the 238 brigades that will be created between November this year and 2027, 93 will be fixed and 145 mobile. Apart from Paris, all departments will receive between one and four new brigades.

Although the majority of delinquent acts are committed in the most populous cities, the law enforcement agencies located in 2021, in the rural communes, where a third of the metropolitan population lives, “almost a quarter of the sexual and domestic violence or burglaries recorded”.

The great operational novelty consists in the mobile brigades, each equipped with six gendarmes, who will travel with a truck.

President Emmanuel Macron insisted on “their ability to move to the nearest claim on the ground and in areas that were less covered than others, due to lack of troops”.
