The French nuclear industry intends to hire and train around 100,000 employees over the next ten years. The planned construction of at least six new nuclear power plants will increase the industry’s workload by a quarter, according to a report by nuclear industry officials for the French government, the agency said today.

In addition to the construction of the new nuclear power plants and the maintenance of the existing ones, there will also be additional work in the processing of uranium, the handling of the radioactive waste and the dismantling of the reactors that have been shut down. The report also includes France’s share in building reactors in Britain and India.

The industry representatives give an overview of more than 80 professions that will be particularly in demand in the coming years. New hires for metalworkers are expected to increase by 140 percent, and for engineers by as much as 220 percent. “We will be hiring at all levels, from technical college to engineer,” says the Ministry for the Energy Transition. A good year ago, President Emmanuel Macron announced a change in French nuclear policy and promised to build up to 14 new reactors.
