Unfortunately not everything lasts forever and Velan Studios announced that they will be shutting down the Knockout City servers this year.
Knockout City originally hit the market as a paid game published by Electronic Arts, with a fresh proposal that reached Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and next-generation consoles, with crossplay between all platforms. In September of last year Knockout City went free-to-playbut unfortunately that was not enough to extend his life.
Yesterday Velan Studios published an announcement through the official Knockout City account on social networks, confirming that Season 9 will be the last. All Knockout City servers will be shut down from June 6, 2023, almost exactly two years after its original release. Still, Velan Studios say they have more things planned for their fans.
“This was an extremely difficult decision for us, but a necessary and important one for the studio.said Jeremy Russo, the director of Knockout City, who says they plan a season 9 full of content to say goodbye appropriately, both inside and outside the game. In addition, Knockout City will have a version for private servers on PC, which would allow players on this platform to continue organizing their games.
In the year and a half since Knockout City arrived we’ve seen Velan Studios become their own publisher, going free-to-play; they have created eleven additional maps, a dozen balls and nearly three thousand different cosmetics, learning a lot about game development in general and games as a service specifically.
Meanwhile Jeremy Russo says that they are in the process of a comprehensive retrospective, as they hope to use all the information gathered in the distant future to figure out what the next chapter in the world of Knockout City is. “While we can’t promise that Knockout City will return, we can promise that you will continue to see innovative games from Velan Studios.
Knockout City Season 9 will kick off on February 28, 2023 with the release of Update 9.0. This season will last 12 weeks and will have 6 events with its most creative cosmetics to date, as well as a new event focused on League Play. Also, with the new season comes a new map and the latest Brawl Pass.
