Young and viable players who also come onto the transfer market for free are few and far between. Becir Omeragic is one of them. The central defender of FC Zurich is letting his contract with last year’s Swiss champions expire. After five years, the 21-year-old is looking for a new challenge.
After FTinformation, two Bundesliga clubs are also among the interested clubs. In particular, FC Augsburg and TSG Hoffenheim have given their business cards to Omeragic. English second division leaders FC Burnley and FC Braga from Portugal are also interested in the four-time international, whose development has stalled this season.
Record sale missed in summer
About a year ago, people in Zurich were still optimistic that they could sell Omeragic for a club-internal record sum. The right foot was an integral part of the champion team. However, a meniscus injury in April thwarted the plans. A lucrative sale failed to materialize.
In the first half of the current season, Omeragic also struggled with several injuries and therefore only played five games. In the 2023 calendar year, the central defender was able to regain his regular place and only missed one of twelve competitive games. After months of negotiations with Zurich, a free transfer for the summer is now certain. Augsburg and Hoffenheim don’t want to miss out on the bargain.
