Schlager legend Tony Marshall died on Thursday evening at the age of 85. His friends remember the musician in BILD.

Roberto Blanco (85, “It has to be a little fun”) and Tony Marshall not only sang together (e.g. “Resi bring beer”) – they were also best friends!

Blanco to BILD: “I’m very sorry that Tony is no longer with us. I met him 61 years ago when he worked as a croupier at the Casino Baden-Baden. We later did a lot of shows together. People sometimes called me Tony and him Roberto because we were so similar in personality.”

He remembers: “Whenever we saw each other, we always had to laugh heartily. We loved to sit together with wine and tell jokes for hours. I will never forget my friend Tony.”

Music producer Jack White (82) discovered Tony Marshall in 1971 and made him a star with his songs.

White in tears to BILD: “Tony and I had a real male friendship. It all started for him and me with the ‘Beautiful Maid’. I went to Berlin with him the night before the recording and when Tony came into the studio the next afternoon he was still tipsy.

And further: “That’s what made the song so unique, you can really hear the joie de vivre. We sold 1.7 million singles and made music history. It makes me very, very sad that Tony has passed away.
