The DRK Gladbeck had its hands full on Easter. Rescue service, dog unit, medical care and more were in demand.

The German Red Cross (DRK) Gladbeck was often requested at Easter. So had the service and emergency call center during the holidays with 22,000 house emergency call subscribers connected, there is a lot to do. The dispatchers recorded more than 200 assignments. The range of interventions ranged from the missing daily report to a fall in the apartment, door opening, use of the nursing service, loss of the hand-held radio transmitter, use of the medical emergency service, notification of relatives or simply the request of the pharmacy on duty. The rescue service was called several times for acute emergencies and transport to the hospital. And that wasn’t all.

In the area Medical transport logisticsthe blood supply and diagnostic samples in the Emscher-Lippe region were secured. The DRK forces went to blood banks and central laboratories several times. The service and emergency call center of the Gladbeck Red Cross also organized urgent sterile goods transports in special containers for upcoming emergency operations.

To a mantrailer deployment because of a missing person it came on Holy Saturday in Lübbecke. The operation was unsuccessfully canceled on Easter Sunday.

“On Holy Saturday the home delivery of the 40 customers was carried out by the volunteer Red Cross volunteers,” reports Gladbeck DRK Chairman Wilhelm Walter, “beforehand, the helpers drove to the discounters and picked up the goods for home delivery and the Tuesday edition in Rentfort, sorted them and prepared everything.”

On Holy Saturday, a group of volunteers was also on duty – for one typing action at the Wacker Gladbeck “Oster Cup Tournament” in the stadium on Bohmertstraße. In this way, an urgently needed stem cell donation for the six-year-old Max from Gladbeck, who is suffering from cancer, is to be found.

The professionally equipped Emergency call and service center in the DRK center on Europastraße in Gladbeck is constantly manned and coordinates all operations. The district association has special permits in accordance with the NRW Rescue Service Act to transport medicines, blood products and organs. All full-time staff are specially qualified for dispatcher activities and have training in the areas of conversation, emergency services, operations management, emergency management and “house emergency call technology”. Wilhelm Walter: “Also as the DRK alarm center Westphalia, all threads come together here for the purpose of information and alarms for 38 district associations and all DRK rescue dog squadrons in Westphalia, as well as reports and inquiries for the task force of the DRK state association in Münster.”
